MammoXpress: Making Breast Cancer Screening Accessible

Focusing on making breast cancer screening accessible and convenient, Parkway Cancer Centre and Parkway Radiology organised roadshows to bring the service straight to the community.

With over 2,000 new cases diagnosed and more than 400 lives lost each year, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in Singapore. One in 12 women is likely to develop breast cancer by the age of 751. The good news is, early detection significantly improves survival rates.

Mammography is the most reliable screening tool for detecting breast cancer early, even before lumps can be felt. Recognising the life-saving potential of screening, Parkway Cancer Centre and Parkway Radiology worked together to run Breast Cancer Movement Roadshow 2025, which comprised four sessions through the year. The MammoXpress, a mobile mammography bus, was a key feature of the event.

The events raised awareness and brought breast screening directly to where women live and work, eliminating barriers such as busy schedules and inconvenience. The service made it possible for women to sign up on the spot or in advance through the CanScrEEn site2, complete their mammogram within an hour and receive results via MyHealth360 app within five working days. Staff were on-site to guide participants through the screening process and dispel misconceptions.

To boost engagement, radio DJs kept the crowd energised and encouraged visitors to take part in activities, including a spin-the-wheel game with prizes ranging from tote bags to umbrellas.

“Many women are hesitant about going for a mammogram, often due to misconceptions, fear, or inconvenience,” shared Brenda Kwok, Lead, Business Development, at Parkway Radiology. “But personally, I discovered I had breast cancer at an early stage through a routine mammogram. The experience is why I’m passionate about making screening as easy and accessible as possible.”

While 75% of women aged 50 to 69 in Singapore have had a mammogram at least once, only 35% undergo regular screening every two years as recommended3. Initiatives like MammoXpress aim to close this gap and empower more women to prioritise their health and peace of mind.
