World Cancer Day unites the globe in the battle against cancer. With everyone playing a part in increasing awareness and developing new detection and treatment methods, a growing number of people are able to survive cancer today.
But more needs to be done, as the incidence of cancer is expected to keep rising in tandem with a growing and ageing population. In less than 15 years’ time, over 21 million people are projected to be diagnosed with cancer across the globe each year, with more than 13 million people dying from the disease.
We can make a large impact on our own health by taking action to lower the risk of cancer. Research indicates that as much as a third of common cancers can be prevented – if people maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet, a healthy weight and regular exercise to stay fit.
