October was a special month for Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC) – not only was it its ninth anniversary, but it also opened a new clinic at Mount Elizabeth Orchard Medical Centre. It is PCC’s seventh clinic and is helmed by Dr Zee Ying Kiat, Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology.
The new clinic on the 10th floor has three consultation rooms and a treatment area fitted with eight treatment chairs and two beds. Patients also have access to individual television sets and headsets, as well as storage areas for personal belongings.
PCC started as Singapore’s first private cancer centre and now has clinics in several hospitals all over the island including Gleneagles, Mount Elizabeth and Mount Elizabeth Novena. PCC offers services that range from counselling to palliative care, and raises awareness on cancer with several campaigns.
Throughout the years, the motto has remained the same – to provide accessible treatment, top-of-the-line medical advice and care, and most importantly, healing. This motto is reflected in the latest clinic at Mount Elizabeth Orchard Medical Centre.
Dr Ang Peng Tiam, Medical Director of PCC, said: “We built this clinic to provide higher accessibility for our patients and doctors. In Dr Zee’s old clinic, patients had to go to separate venues for consultation and treatment. With this clinic, where everything is in one location, our patients can undergo treatment in comfort and assurance that their doctor is just a few steps away. We wanted to give them the right ambience in which to undergo treatment. Their healing journey is very important to us.”
The new clinic is also home to four other doctors. These doctors have different specialties that give the clinic a well-rounded infrastructure to provide the best care to their patients. This framework also includes a team of nurses, a palliative team, and counsellors from PCC’s support group CanHOPE, seeing to their patients’ mental, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
Of his new clinic, Dr Zee said: “I am happy that the clinic will be better able to provide for our patients. That, to me is paramount. The fact that we can always provide better service and better care for our patients is what we have been striving for.”By Charmaine Ng PCC’s seventh clinic Mount Elizabeth Orchard Medical Centre #10-11/12 What’s at the clinic:
