Early Cancer Detection: Screening Guidelines You Should Know

Contributed by: Dr Tanujaa Rajasekaran

Early detection can improve treatment outcomes and quality of life, making regular screenings — even in the absence of symptoms — essential for prevention and survival.

CANCER REMAINS A LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH WORLDWIDE, and cases are rising, particularly in Asia, where an estimated 49% of new global cancer cases were reported in 2022*. Early detection through regular screening is a powerful tool in the fight against cancer. It allows for timely intervention, improving treatment success rates and enhancing quality of life.

Screening is especially critical as many cancers show no symptoms in their early stages. For example, breast, cervical, lung and colorectal cancers often go unnoticed until they progress. By following recommended screening guidelines, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of severe complications or death
