Healing touch

It took the scent and soothing properties of sandalwood to help Sakeena, a nurse counsellor at CanHOPE, and one patient connect.

While other counsellors often find that they need to reach out to distraught patients with patient words and kind actions, Sakeena found that it was the fragrance of sandalwood that did the trick.

Patient support groups

Support groups organise programmes that bring together individuals and aim to promote self-awareness, provide accurate and timely information, help in the discovery of problem-solving strategies and foster mutual support among group members.

This programme aims to have volunteers and friends impacting the lives of those with cancer through encouragement, support, caring and sharing.

As part of the holistic approach towards cancer treatment, Parkway Cancer Centre provides counseling and resource information through CanHOPE. CanHOPE is a non-profit service from which patients and the general public can receive accurate cancer information, related screening services and treatments via a telephone hotline and through email. CanHOPE also conducts face-to-face counselling and patient support group meetings to provide emotional and psychosocial support to all patients and their families.
