One had survived cancer and wanted to help other cancer patients. Another was so inspired by stories of changing people's lives, that she decided to befriend patients. And yet another wanted to use her counselling skills to comfort those struck down by the disease.

Together, they form a newly-launched network of volunteers known as CanFRiENDS.

CanFRiENDS' first volunteers tell why they signed up A LISTENING EAR
I have close relatives who came down with cancer, and I found that it's good for them to be informed. I have attended many health talks, and want to help them by lending a listening ear, and interacting with them and their family members. They need a support group to boost their morale.

As part of the holistic approach towards cancer treatment, Parkway Cancer Centre provides counseling and resource information through CanHOPE. CanHOPE is a non-profit service from which patients and the general public can receive accurate cancer information, related screening services and treatments via a telephone hotline and through email. CanHOPE also conducts face-to-face counselling and patient support group meetings to provide emotional and psychosocial support to all patients and their families.
