Profile

Dr Lee is a paediatrician with special interest in paediatric haematology and oncology with over 20 years of experience. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong in 1986, Dr Lee received his post-graduate training in the University Paediatric Unit, Queen Mary Hospital. He was admitted as Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom in 1989 and has been recognised as a Specialist in Paediatrics under the Medical Council of Hong Kong in 1993. Dr Lee is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH), the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (FHKAM), and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).

Dr Lee also received his postgraduate training in paediatric haematology and oncology in the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Institute of Child Health, the University of London in 1990-1991. He returned to Hong Kong and established the paediatric bone marrow transplantation service in Queen Mary Hospital in 1991. In 1992, he carried out the first successful transplantation for thalassaemia in Hong Kong. In 1994, he carried out the first successful case of umbilical cord blood transplantation in Hong Kong.

In 1995, Dr Lee helped established a comprehensive paediatric haematology and oncology service in Tuen Mun Hospital, a new regional hospital in Hong Kong that looked after 1 million people in that region. He also served as an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor to the University of Hong Kong.

In 2007, Dr Lee joined the ParkwayHealth in Singapore and established the Children's Haematology and Cancer Centre. This is a private healthcare facility that provides highly specialised clinical care for children with cancers and blood diseases from all over the globe. Children under the Children's Haematology and Cancer Centre receive personalised care that includes diagnostic evaluation, chemotherapy and other therapeutic interventions, and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Dr Lee has been a member of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (formerly United Kingdom Children’s Cancer Study Group), and the Hong Kong Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Study Group. He was the Chairman of the Hong Kong Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Study Group from 2002 to 2004. Dr Lee has published over 100 papers in indexed, peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Anselm Lee helped established the Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Programme in the Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He performed the first bmt for Thalassaemia. In 1994, Dr Lee performed the first case of Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation in Hong Kong. In 1995, Dr Lee moved to Tuen Mun Hospital and successfully restructured its Paediatric Haemotology and Oncology Service.

CanHOPE, a non-profit cancer counselling & support service and hotline, is an initiative by Parkway Cancer Centre. It is a resource for information about cancer and its available screening tests and treatments for both patients and the general public. CanHOPE is manned by an experienced, knowledgeable and caring support team who have access to comprehensive information from reputable resources on a wide range of cancer topics, including treatment options for cancer. Our support team will take as much time as required to provide thorough and personalised attention. All information provided are kept confidential.

CanHOPE also runs a face-to-face cancer counselling & support service at our offices where our support team are based. The objective of this service is to address the psychosocial needs of patients and families across an entire spectrum of the disease from diagnosis to “living with cancer” to palliative care.
